The students, faculty, and staff at Grandview High School would be ecstatic if we received the Facilities Enrichment Grant. This grant would help us purchase new equipment for our weight room. We have all felt the sting of the recession, our district is smaller and our budget has diminished as well. We feel strongly that we need to offer opportunities to all of our students so they can be successful in the future. We cannot allow the misfortune of our times to shake our determination to produce the finest student athletes in the state! Grandview High School is the recent state champions of track. Grandview has had a good reputation at turning out athletes. Some of our prestigious alum includes Josh Freeman, Alex Burks, Cliff Parsley, Chie Gunner and Brandon Pearl. Our current collegiate athletes include Brandon Kinnie-NU, Jermaine Saffold-MSU, Rod Williams-NWMO, Xavier Williams-UNI, Ronnie Boggs-JSU, and LaTanya Short-ORU. Many of our student athletes do not come from families where college is easily afforded. They rely on athletic scholarships to offset the rising cost of education. We pride ourselves on demanding higher standards than most high schools in our area. We expect our student athletes to make the grade, both on and off the field. We ask that our students earn “8 out of 8” – meaning that all students pass eight out of eight classes every year. But because of the recession and the economic blight that has affected everyone; some of our facilities lack the spirit of our determination! Our weight room has equipment that is twenty-five to thirty years old. It is very bleak. We want to reward our athletes who sacrifice much of their time and social lives to compete. Our student athletes dream of going to college, and that is our goal, also. Imagine all of our students’ delight in winning a grant to build a weight room with new racks and dumbbells and other equipment hand-picked for their success. We would send a message that we support them, and that the community does, as well. If we were fortunate enough to win this generous grant, we could make a statement about their determination and will to achieve. The Pipe Fitters Local 533 could make the dreams come true for many of our athletes who have pursued their goals for years.
I graduated from GV in 1982. They need new equipment in the weight room. Weight room is used for all sports Please take into consideration GV
To help athletes from getting hurt, our field is terrible. Several athletes have been injured and is most embarassing when other schools complain about our field and facility. Please consider our school for this grant. It will help uplift spirits of all athletes and other programs such as band, soccer. This will also help keep scholar athletes in our school district, as we have the potential to master both. Bulldog pride
I have been a resident of Grandview for 45 years. I attended each of the schools in the district at one time or another and now have a child going to Grandview High school. As the parent of a young man who uses the weight room from time to time for football and various other activities, it is important to me that the facility be top notch. I feel it is beneficial for Grandview to receive the grant, as it would enable them to bring up to date their weight room making it safer for our young people. Thank You.
If any school deserves $10000 it is definetly Grandview High School. I have been in the weight room and was shocked by how outdated the equipment was and how small the room was. Going to various football games at different locations showed how lacking and in need Grandview High School really is. You can see the defeat in the kids faces when they see the other teams fields, locker rooms and weight rooms. They get defeated prior to even going on the field. These kids don’t have much and they deserve so much more. If any kids deserve something these kids do. A little faith from the community will do alot for these kids self esteem and make them have some pride in there school.
